I live at 16 Waverly Avenue, 2 blocks away from Myrtle Avenue, where there are diners, hardware stores, banks, beauty salons, grocery stores, etc. I like this lifestyle where all the stores I could need are within walking distance. I do not need a car for anything.
My own street is sort of an industrial wasteland. There is a brand new upscale apartment place on the right, then a large Jewish Talmud school on the right, and a storage business on the left. My building is down at the end, on the left. It is sort of wonderful how quiet the street gets after 5 PM, when the businesses shut down. This is my street:
I am only beginning to decide how to decorate my place. I had forgotten how much work it is to move. It will be a good month or two before I am settled in. Some views below. I invite opinions about how to use the space.

The previous tenant was an artist named David. He built a bed in the front hall. I’m thinking I will section this area off with curtains, and this will be my guest room (in this first photo, I’m up on the mattress, looking toward my front door):
The view from the top of my building. In the foreground is a port, in the distance is Manhattan. A different lens would bring out Manhattan better, it is a nice view:
From my front door, if I look left, here is my front porch:
This is part of the view from my front door, looking across the street, to the left and then to the right. There are many mysterious buildings on this block, they look abandoned but they are in fact still used by businesses. Maybe for warehouse space?
If I walk across the street and turn to the left, I can see Manhattan in the distance:
My front door can be seen here, to the right of the trash bins and to the left of the truck (the window you see behind the truck is my front window:

Rainbow, thanks for the tip. You should come up here and help me arrange everything in the Feng Shui way.
Jess, I do not have as much space as you have, but I’m pleased to find this space in New York City. Housing is always a struggle in NYC.

Hi Lawrence!
Great to see you back in this space. I used to check it but it started telling me, “forbidden” so I stopped coming here. I agree with Rainbow. The best rooms I’ve laid out have followed feng shui guidelines. I’m about to update and launch the website that you’ve been so kindly hosting for me. Been doing lots of planning and building and tractoring these last few months. Watch my space!

Thanks, Sam! I still hope to come to Australia and see the garden you and Tim have!

Ah-ha! Then I have met you! You let my partner and I into the building when we arrived in the middle of the night, because of Lark’s bell being uncertain to wake her up in case she’d fallen asleep. I think that was sometime in October. Too bad we didn’t actually get to hang out.
